Project |01 Agency Action Research

Exploring ways to promote learner agency in preparation for the enhanced PYP, we wanted to take a closer look at the impact of our organisational structures on student learning. I coordinated and led an action research project in 2018 which saw the creation of a temporary learning space within the school, called the Learning Pod. The learners, from Years 3 to 6 volunteered with their families to take part along with colleagues who served as mentors. The curriculum and the daily plans were co-created by the children and the mentors and data was collected throughout the project.

The findings from this project were shared in this paper.
We created channels for the SDGs (one per goal) and as students learned more about the issues they were investigating, they shared their new understanding in a short podcast.
MMUN
Project |02 Montessori Model UN Team

While working with students on a number of projects related to the United Nations' goals for sustainable development, I wanted to find a way to introduce the idea of collaboratively solving problems with students in a more systematic manner. The Montessori Model United Nations has a philosophy closely aligned to the PYP and was a natural fit for our school. After starting the MMUN at our school with a colleague, I am now the coordinator of programme which has grown to include two teams, one for the primary students and another for the MYP students.

Interest in the Sustainable Development Goals has also grown at the school and I created a number of podcast channels (one per SDG) for the students to share their learning about issues related to these goals.
We used Flipgrid for students to connect with other students also taking part in the project in other parts of the world. They were able to leave their reflections about the book in video posts and view the responses from the other students. They were also able to comment on the other students' video posts. It was a great deal of fun talking about the author's craft and making new friends while doing so.
I began this project for our Year 4 team who wanted to connect with other students as they explored similarities and differences. We used a variety of tools including Skype and Popplet.
Students used Edmodo as a collaborative online tool to share their ideas and information.

Project |03 Global Connections

Having enjoyed collaborating with peers online for some time, I wanted my students to have the same opportunity. I have facilitated these connections as a teacher with my own students and as a technology coordinator for my colleagues and their students.
